COURSE CURRICULUM

The UTS Bachelor of Forensic Science provides students with a comprehensive education in forensic science, preparing them for careers in crime scene investigation, laboratory analysis, courtroom processes, and intelligence work. All students complete core forensic science subjects that establish a strong foundation in the discipline, covering essential principles, criminalistics, forensic statistics, and forensic research methodologies. These subjects ensure graduates have a solid understanding of the scientific techniques and analytical skills required to examine biological traces, chemical substances, digital evidence, and complex cases.Within their chosen major, students gain specialised technical expertise and workplace readiness, allowing them to confidently apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings. Practical learning is a central feature of the course, with students engaging in hands-on activities in state-of-the-art facilities such as the Superlab and Crime Scene Simulation Labs. These facilities enable students to practise realistic crime scene investigations, forensic imaging, intelligence gathering, and laboratory procedures under the guidance of leading academics and industry professionals from the Centre for Forensic Science. This combination of theory and practice ensures that students are not only scientifically competent but also equipped to operate effectively in professional forensic environments.The curriculum emphasises critical thinking, problem-solving, and professional communication, preparing graduates to analyse evidence rigorously and present findings with clarity and accuracy. By completing a forensic research project, students develop the skills to undertake independent investigations and contribute to advances in forensic science.
