COURSE CURRICULUM
The UTS Bachelor of Environmental Biology equips students with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience needed to address pressing environmental challenges and protect ecosystems. Students begin their studies with foundational science units, developing a strong understanding of the biosphere, nature and evolution, cell biology, molecular biology, chemistry, and scientific inquiry. These subjects build a toolkit of technical and professional skills, including data analysis, experimental design, and critical thinking, providing a solid base for advanced study in environmental science. As students progress, they specialise in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, completing core Environmental Biology subjects that cover ecology, plant physiology, biodiversity conservation, wildlife management, and environmental sustainability. They develop practical expertise through laboratory work and field-based experiences, learning to monitor ecosystems, assess environmental impacts, and apply conservation and remediation techniques. Students also gain hands-on experience with GIS, remote sensing, and environmental chemistry, equipping them with the tools to analyse and manage complex environmental systems effectively. The program offers flexibility to tailor learning to individual interests through elective units from across UTS’s wide range of disciplines. Students can also undertake professional internships for academic credit, providing exposure to real-world environmental research, consultancy, and policy development. These opportunities allow students to apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings, strengthen problem-solving and communication skills, and build professional networks.Graduates leave the program with a deep understanding of ecological principles, environmental processes, and sustainability strategies, prepared for careers in conservation, environmental management, ecological research, and policy development. By combining rigorous scientific training, practical lab and fieldwork, and opportunities for specialised study and professional experience, the Bachelor of Environmental Biology develops skilled and adaptable graduates ready to contribute to the preservation of ecosystems, the mitigation of climate change, and the promotion of sustainable environmental practices worldwide.
