COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mechanical Engineering program at UTS provides a deep and practical understanding of how solid objects, fluids, heat and electrical systems behave, interact and transform under different conditions. In this major, you will study the principles that govern motion, force, energy and material behaviour, learning how to analyse, calculate and control the physical forces that drive change in engineered systems. Your studies will include core mechanical engineering areas such as dynamics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and heat transfer, giving you the technical foundation needed to work confidently with both simple and complex mechanical systems. You will also be introduced to electrical engineering concepts, including circuit generation, electrical energy, and the operation of electrical devices, enabling you to integrate mechanical and electrical components in modern machine-based technologies. This combination of knowledge broadens your skill set and prepares you to tackle multidisciplinary challenges common in industries such as manufacturing, robotics, aerospace, energy and automotive engineering. Throughout the program, you will apply theoretical learning to practical activities, laboratory sessions and real-world style engineering projects that build your problem-solving ability and technical confidence. These experiences are designed to help you develop the hands-on skills expected of professional engineers, including the ability to design, test, analyse and refine mechanical systems. By the time you complete the degree, you will have gained the expertise to innovate, optimise and push the boundaries of machine-based technology. Core subjects such as Physical Modelling, Mathematics 1 and 2, Introduction to Engineering Projects, Engineering Project Appraisal, Designing Sustainable Engineering Projects, Professional Engineering Communication, Collaboration in Complex Projects, Professional Practice Preparation 1 and the Professional Experience Review contribute to a structured and comprehensive learning pathway that prepares you for a successful engineering career.
