COURSE CURRICULUM

In this program, you will study a range of core subjects that build a strong foundation in the engineering profession, preparing you with essential knowledge in project management, mathematics and modelling. These subjects introduce the analytical and practical skills that every engineer needs, helping you understand how engineering projects are designed, evaluated and communicated in real-world contexts. As you move into the Mechanical and Mechatronic major, your learning becomes more specialised, focusing on the principles and practices required to design, integrate and optimise mechanical systems that incorporate modern electronic control and computing. This major places a strong emphasis on understanding how mechanical components, embedded systems and intelligent control algorithms work together to create advanced mechatronic solutions. Throughout your studies, you will engage with practical tasks, simulations and industry-relevant tools that build your capability to solve complex engineering problems and develop innovative system designs. In your final year, you will complete an honours research project, giving you the chance to apply your accumulated knowledge to a substantial piece of independent work. This project serves as the capstone of your degree, allowing you to explore a problem or opportunity in mechanical or mechatronic engineering while demonstrating your ability to plan, execute and communicate a professional engineering investigation. In addition, the program includes a professional work placement, where you will gain meaningful industry experience and develop employment-ready skills. The core subjects you will undertake include Physical Modelling, Mathematics 1 and 2, Introduction to Engineering Projects, Engineering Project Appraisal, Designing Sustainable Engineering Projects, Professional Engineering Communication, Collaboration in Complex Projects, Professional Practice Preparation 1 and Professional Experience Review. Together, these subjects provide a comprehensive and well-rounded education that prepares you for a successful future as a mechanical and mechatronic engineer.
