COURSE CURRICULUM
In this degree, you will study a comprehensive mix of core engineering subjects and specialised topics designed to build your expertise in civil and environmental engineering. Your learning begins with fundamental areas such as mathematics, physical modelling and introductory engineering concepts, which help you understand how engineers analyse, design and manage complex systems. As you progress, you will undertake subjects that focus on engineering project appraisal, sustainable project design, professional communication and collaboration within complex project environments. These subjects strengthen your ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, manage engineering challenges and make informed decisions that balance environmental, social and technical considerations. Within the Civil and Environmental Engineering major, you will gain extensive knowledge in soil behaviour, structural design, geotechnical engineering, transport systems, surveying, hydrology, water resource management, and environmental planning. You will explore how to design infrastructure that is safe, efficient and sustainable, while also learning to manage issues related to pollution control, renewable energy, environmental compliance and resource recovery. This major prepares you to address the growing global demand for engineers who can create resilient infrastructure and protect natural environments. Throughout the course, professional practice is strongly emphasised. You will complete structured industry placements and a professional experience review, which provide valuable exposure to real engineering workplaces. In your final year, you will undertake a major capstone project that challenges you to solve an industry-relevant problem by applying your accumulated technical and analytical skills. This project enhances your research abilities and strengthens your readiness for employment. Overall, the degree equips you with the theoretical insights, practical capabilities and professional experience required for a successful career in civil and environmental engineering, enabling you to contribute meaningfully to infrastructure development, sustainability and future-focused engineering solutions.
