COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Design in Product Design at UTS is a 144-credit-point degree structured to build strong foundations in product innovation, technical design skills, and critical thinking. The program is primarily composed of 108 credit points of core subjects, which form the central learning pathway and focus on developing essential competencies in product design practice, including concept development, prototyping, testing, and manufacturing processes. These core subjects also integrate emerging technologies, materials exploration, and user-centred design approaches to ensure students gain practical and industry-relevant skills. In addition, students complete 24 credit points of Design Studies, which provide theoretical and contextual understanding of design history, research methods, sustainability, and the broader cultural, social, and economic influences on product design. The final 12 credit points are allocated to electives, allowing students to broaden their learning or explore specialised areas of interest within or beyond the design discipline. This structured yet flexible curriculum enables students to balance technical expertise with conceptual understanding and creative exploration. By combining hands-on studio practice with academic study, the program prepares graduates to address real-world challenges and develop innovative, responsible, and functional product solutions.
