COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Design in Fashion and Textiles at UTS is a 144-credit-point program structured to develop both technical proficiency and conceptual understanding in fashion and textile design. The course consists of 108 credit points of core subjects, which form the central component of the degree and focus on building essential skills in patternmaking, garment construction, textile design, and contemporary fashion practice. These core subjects also encourage experimentation with materials, design processes, and creative development, enabling students to produce innovative and industry-relevant work. In addition, students complete 24 credit points of Design Studies, which provide theoretical, historical, and contextual knowledge of design. This component explores areas such as fashion history, cultural influences, sustainability, and research methods, helping students understand the broader social, cultural, and environmental contexts in which fashion operates. The final 12 credit points are allocated to electives, allowing students to broaden their learning or specialise in areas aligned with their individual interests and career goals. This balanced structure combines hands-on studio practice with academic study, ensuring students develop both practical skills and critical thinking abilities. Overall, the program prepares graduates to respond to the evolving demands of the global fashion industry with creativity, technical expertise, and a strong understanding of design principles and industry practice.
