COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Design in Architecture at UTS is a 144-credit-point program structured over three years of full-time study, designed to build strong foundations in architectural design, theory, and technical skills. The course is delivered at a standard load of 24 credit points per session, equating to 48 credit points per year. In Years 1 and 2, students undertake one 12-credit-point design studio each session, supported by two compulsory 6-credit-point subjects that develop core knowledge in architectural thinking, representation, and technical understanding. These early years focus on building essential design capabilities and introducing students to key principles of the built environment. In Year 3, the structure evolves to a more independent and integrative format, where each session includes a 12-credit-point design studio, one 6-credit-point compulsory subject, and one 6-credit-point elective, allowing students to personalise their learning and explore areas of interest within architecture and related disciplines. Overall, the course comprises 114 credit points of core subjects and 30 credit points of options, providing both a strong professional foundation and flexibility for academic exploration. This structure ensures students progressively develop from guided learning to more autonomous, complex design work, preparing them for further study in the Master of Architecture and eventual professional architectural practice.
