COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Criminology combined with the Bachelor of Forensic Science requires the completion of 192 credit points, structured across two equally weighted disciplines of 96 credit points each. The Criminology component includes 72 credit points of core subjects and 24 credit points of criminology electives, providing a strong foundation in understanding crime, criminal behaviour, justice systems, and the social, legal, and institutional factors that shape crime and public safety. The Forensic Science component consists of 42 credit points of core subjects and 54 credit points of forensic science major subjects, which focus on the scientific methods used in criminal investigation, including evidence collection, laboratory analysis, and interpretation of forensic data. Together, these streams combine theoretical knowledge with applied scientific practice, allowing students to understand both the causes of crime and the technical processes used to investigate it. The curriculum is designed to develop analytical thinking, problem-solving, and research skills, supported by practical learning in laboratories and real-world case studies. Students gain experience in applying scientific techniques to legal and investigative contexts while also studying criminological theory and criminal justice systems. Graduates are prepared for careers in forensic laboratories, policing, criminal investigation, intelligence services, government agencies, and research organisations, where they can contribute to crime detection, justice processes, and public safety through both scientific and social science perspectives.
