COURSE CURRICULUM
The Bachelor of Criminology introduces you to the core concepts, theories and practices that define modern criminology and prepares you for a range of career pathways across the criminal justice sector. Your learning begins with a set of core Criminology subjects designed to establish essential foundations in law, society, research, data interpretation and policy-making. These subjects help you understand how crime occurs, how it is measured, how it is addressed through various justice systems and how social, cultural and political factors shape both criminal behaviour and responses to it. As you progress, you will personalise your degree by choosing either a standard or extended major that aligns with your interests and career goals. Your major enables you to specialise in a specific area of criminology, offering deeper knowledge and more targeted skill development. Depending on your selected major, you may also have the opportunity to tailor your learning further through elective subjects that broaden your expertise, or sub-majors that build strong capabilities in a specialised field of study. Toward the end of your degree, you will complete a capstone subject designed to integrate your learning into a real-world context. This capstone typically involves collaborating with an industry partner on a research-based or policy-focused project, giving you valuable practical experience and insights into current challenges and innovations across the criminal justice landscape. Throughout the course, you will engage with a variety of topics, including criminological theory, crime data analysis, Indigenous perspectives on justice, social structures, emerging crime trends, and the evaluation of local and international policy approaches. By the time you graduate, you will have developed strong analytical, research and communication skills, alongside a practical understanding of how criminology contributes to safer and more equitable communities.
