COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Communication in Journalism combined with the Bachelor of Creative Intelligence and Innovation at UTS is a 240 credit point program that integrates professional journalism training with future-focused, transdisciplinary learning. The Journalism component consists of 144 credit points, including 18 credit points of Communication Core subjects that establish foundational skills in communication theory and media practice. Students complete a 48 credit-point Journalism Stream that develops expertise in news reporting, investigative journalism, multimedia storytelling, and digital content production. In addition, students may select a potential 48 credit-point Second Stream, which must be chosen at the time of first-year enrolment, with the first two subjects completed in the first year to allow early exposure before committing fully. From the second year, students may continue with the second stream, which is formally recognised in the final award title, or opt out and complete electives instead, with any changes requiring an eRequest submission. The remaining 30 credit points are allocated to electives, providing flexibility to broaden academic interests. The second component is the 96 credit-point Bachelor of Creative Intelligence and Innovation, delivered in accelerated sessions during July and December over the first three years, followed by a final year of intensive study after completion of the professional degree. This component is not offered as a standalone qualification and focuses on developing advanced capabilities in creativity, innovation, entrepreneurship, collaboration, and interdisciplinary problem-solving. Together, the program prepares graduates for dynamic careers in journalism and media industries with strong creative and strategic thinking abilities.
