COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Communication in Digital and Social Media/Bachelor of Laws at UTS is a 240 credit point dual degree that leads to two separate qualifications by combining communication studies with a comprehensive legal education. The Law component accounts for 144 credit points and includes 108 credit points of compulsory core law subjects, which provide a strong foundation in legal principles and satisfy the academic requirements for admission to legal practice in New South Wales. Students also complete 30 credit points of law options, which may be taken as general law electives or through specialised Legal Futures and Technology subjects that explore emerging legal systems and digital innovation in law. In addition, a 6-credit-point legal theory subject develops deeper understanding of jurisprudence and legal reasoning. The Communication (Digital and Social Media) component consists of 96 credit points and includes 18 credit points of Communication Core subjects that establish foundational communication skills, 48 credit points of Digital and Social Media Stream subjects focused on online communication, UX/UI design, data visualisation, and social media strategy, and 30 credit points of electives that allow students to broaden their academic interests. This structured program ensures students graduate with both strong legal expertise and advanced digital communication capabilities, preparing them for interdisciplinary careers in law, media, technology, and digital strategy, where legal and communication skills are increasingly interconnected and in high demand.
