COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Communication in Creative Writing/Bachelor of Laws (Honours) at UTS is a 240 credit point combined program that leads to two separate degrees, integrating advanced legal training with specialised creative writing education. The Law component consists of 144 credit points, including 108 credit points of compulsory core law subjects that establish a comprehensive grounding in legal principles and satisfy the academic requirements for admission to legal practice in New South Wales. Students also complete a 6-credit-point legal theory subject that develops deeper critical understanding of jurisprudence. The remaining 30 credit points of law options provide flexibility and may be completed through different pathways, including combinations of law electives with research methodology and research thesis subjects, or an alternative advanced stream incorporating technology-focused law subjects such as legal policy and ethics, applied innovation projects, and topics related to disruptive technologies, along with options for a local internship. The Communication (Creative Writing) component comprises 96 credit points, including 18 credit points of Communication Core subjects that build foundational communication skills, 48 credit points of Creative Writing Stream subjects focused on storytelling, editing, and publishing across diverse formats, and 30 credit points of electives that allow students to broaden their academic exposure. This integrated structure ensures graduates develop strong legal expertise alongside advanced creative writing and communication capabilities, preparing them for interdisciplinary careers in law, media, publishing, intellectual property, and other fields requiring both analytical and creative skills.
