COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Communication in Creative Writing/Bachelor of Laws at UTS comprises a total of 240 credit points and leads to the award of two separate degrees, combining advanced legal education with specialised creative writing studies. The Law component accounts for 144 credit points and includes 108 credit points of compulsory core law subjects that provide a comprehensive foundation in legal principles and meet the academic requirements for admission to legal practice in New South Wales. Students also complete 30 credit points of law options, which may be chosen either as general law electives or through the Legal Futures and Technology pathway, allowing engagement with emerging developments in legal practice. In addition, a 6-credit-point legal theory subject develops deeper critical understanding of legal philosophy and reasoning. The Communication (Creative Writing) component consists of 96 credit points and includes 18 credit points of Communication Core subjects that build essential skills in media and communication practice, 48 credit points of Creative Writing Stream subjects focused on storytelling, writing, editing, and publishing across multiple formats, and 30 credit points of electives that allow students to broaden their academic interests. This structured yet flexible program ensures students gain both rigorous legal training and advanced creative writing capabilities. Graduates are equipped with interdisciplinary skills in legal analysis, communication, and creative expression, preparing them for careers in law, publishing, media, intellectual property, and other fields requiring strong writing and analytical expertise.
