COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Communication (Social and Political Sciences) at UTS comprises a total of 144 credit points and is structured to provide students with both foundational communication skills and specialised knowledge of social and political systems. The program includes 18 credit points of Communication Core subjects that introduce essential concepts in communication theory, media practice, and professional skills development. Students then complete a 48-credit-point Social and Political Sciences Stream, which focuses on understanding social structures, public policy, governance, and issues such as inequality, human rights, and social change. In addition, students select a potential second stream worth 48 credit points, allowing them to broaden or deepen their expertise in another communication-related discipline. This second stream must be chosen during first-year enrolment, and students are required to complete the first two subjects from it in their first year to gain early exposure before committing fully. At the beginning of second year, students may either continue with the selected second stream, which will be formally recognised in their final award title, or opt out and complete electives instead. Students who choose to discontinue the second stream must submit an eRequest to update their study plan. The remaining 30 credit points are allocated to electives, providing flexibility to tailor the degree according to individual academic interests and career goals in social, political, and communication fields.
