COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Advanced Science (Pre-Medicine) is designed for students aiming to build strong foundations for future studies in medicine or a wide range of health-related careers. Throughout the degree, students develop expertise in anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, immunology and genetics, ensuring a deep understanding of the biological processes that underpin human health. The curriculum combines research-informed theory with practical, hands-on learning experiences, allowing students to work directly with high-quality anatomical specimens in facilities such as the Surgical and Anatomical Science Facility. This environment supports a deeper, more applied comprehension of medical science concepts and helps students gain confidence in lab-based skills that are essential for advanced study. Students also complete an Indigenous health subject, which plays an important role in preparing them to contribute meaningfully to healthcare settings that serve Australia’s First Nations communities. This component of the program strengthens cultural awareness and encourages a more holistic view of health and wellbeing. As students progress, they complete core science subjects and specialised Pre-Medicine major subjects that shape the scientific thinking and analytical abilities needed in the healthcare field. In the second year, the inclusion of a transdisciplinary elective encourages collaboration with peers from other disciplines, which builds communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills. During the final year, students finish their major subjects and broaden their knowledge by choosing electives from areas such as Business, Law or Arts. A capstone project further enhances research and communication skills, enabling students to integrate their learning and demonstrate their readiness for postgraduate medical study or a future career across diverse healthcare sectors. This degree ultimately provides a comprehensive pathway for students motivated to pursue advanced medical or allied health professions.
