COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Urbanism (Urban Design) provides a comprehensive and interdisciplinary education that prepares students to create innovative, sustainable, and people-focused urban environments. Through the completion of 96 credit points, students develop a strong foundation in urbanism, planning, design, and policy while gaining specialised expertise in urban design. The program combines 42 credit points of core study, 18 credit points of capstone units, and a minimum of 24 credit points in the Urban Design specialisation, ensuring both theoretical depth and practical application. Key units such as Urban Design Studio: Urban Precinct and Urban Design Studio: Urban Project allow students to engage with real-world urban challenges and develop advanced design solutions for cities and communities. Additional studies in dialogue, deliberation and engagement, GIS-based planning policy and analysis, economics for the built environment, land use and infrastructure planning, and urban data science provide valuable skills in analysis, collaboration, and evidence-based decision-making. Students can further tailor their studies through electives and industry placement opportunities, gaining practical exposure to the built environment sector. The capstone component enables students to integrate their learning through advanced projects that address contemporary urban issues. Graduates emerge with the expertise to bridge architecture, planning, and policy, preparing them for careers in urban design, strategic planning, development, consulting, and public sector leadership.
