COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Teaching (Secondary) is a structured two-year graduate program designed to prepare future educators to teach in secondary schools across a range of subject areas. In Year 1, students build foundational knowledge in education through core units such as re-thinking students, teachers and schools, special and inclusive education, Aboriginal education in secondary contexts, and literacy and numeracy in schools. They also begin their first teaching area and second teaching area curriculum studies, allowing them to specialise in subjects aligned with their undergraduate background. A professional experience placement introduces students to real classroom environments early in the program. In Year 2, students advance their pedagogical skills through units focused on assessment for learning, inclusive schooling, educational technology, and learning from Country, which deepens understanding of Aboriginal perspectives. They continue developing expertise in their chosen curriculum areas through advanced subject-specific units and undertake additional professional placements, including internships and transition-to-teaching experiences. The program culminates in a final internship that integrates theory and practice, preparing students for full-time teaching roles. Across both years, students engage in curriculum design, classroom management, inclusive education strategies, and the use of digital tools in teaching. Upon completion, graduates are qualified secondary school teachers equipped with strong subject knowledge, practical teaching experience, and the professional skills needed to work effectively in diverse school environments.
