COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Teaching (Primary) is a two-year graduate program designed to prepare students to become qualified primary school teachers with strong pedagogical knowledge, curriculum expertise, and practical classroom experience. In Year 1, students build foundational understanding through core education units such as re-thinking students, teachers and schools, special and inclusive education, and teachers and learners in school communities. They also study key primary curriculum areas including English (early literacy and multilingual classrooms), mathematics, human society and its environment (HSIE), creative arts, personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE), and science, technology, and design-based learning. A strong emphasis is placed on Aboriginal education and inclusive teaching practices. Students also complete their first professional experience placement, allowing them to apply theory in real classroom settings. In Year 2, the program advances into more specialised and complex learning, including assessment for learning, programming across the K–6 curriculum, and higher-level studies in primary English and mathematics. Students further develop their understanding of Aboriginal education through community engagement and strengthen their ability to design effective learning experiences for diverse learners. Additional professional placements, including an internship, provide extensive hands-on teaching experience. Overall, the program integrates curriculum knowledge, inclusive education, and practical training to prepare graduates to confidently teach and support primary school students in diverse educational environments.
