COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Teaching (Early Childhood) is a two-year graduate-entry program designed to prepare students for professional careers as early childhood educators working with children from birth to five years. In Year 1, students build foundational knowledge through core units such as Play and Pedagogy in Early Childhood, Foundation Studies in Early Childhood Education, Creative Arts in Early Childhood, and Language and Communication in Early Childhood. They also study Early Childhood Health and Wellness, Science, Technology and Sustainability, and Learning and Development for 0–2 years. A key feature of the first year is the Early Childhood Professional Experience 1 placement, which provides practical exposure to teaching infants and toddlers in real early learning settings. In Year 2, students deepen their understanding through advanced units including Development in the Early Years, Mathematics for Early Years, and Family, Community and Contexts, along with a second professional experience placement focused on children aged 3–5 years. The program also includes specialised study in Inclusion and Early Intervention in Early Childhood and Early Childhood Leadership, preparing students to support diverse learners and take on leadership roles. The degree culminates in an EC Internship and Practitioner Inquiry unit, allowing students to integrate theory and practice. Overall, the program equips graduates with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to become effective, reflective, and ethical early childhood educators.
