COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Nursing is a 96-credit-point graduate-entry program that combines foundational nursing knowledge, clinical practice, and professional development to prepare students for registration and practice as registered nurses. Students are required to study at either the Camperdown or Westmead campus throughout the program and complete prescribed clinical placements. In the first year, the curriculum focuses on core concepts including the social contexts of health, human pathophysiology, foundations of nursing practice, research and evidence-based care, illness experiences, pharmacotherapeutics, nursing practice development, and mental health nursing. These subjects provide students with a strong understanding of human health, disease processes, medication management, patient-centred care, and professional nursing responsibilities. In the second year, students build on these foundations through advanced study in long-term and life-limiting conditions, community health nursing, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, Australian healthcare within a global context, and the progression and advancement of nursing practice. The program also includes units focused on nursing frameworks and transition to professional practice, helping students integrate theory with clinical decision-making and leadership skills. Throughout the degree, students engage in evidence-based learning, clinical experiences, and interdisciplinary collaboration, enabling them to develop the competence, confidence, and cultural awareness necessary to provide safe, effective, and compassionate nursing care across a wide range of healthcare settings and patient populations.
