COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of International Relations is a structured postgraduate program that provides students with a comprehensive understanding of global politics, international systems, and contemporary world issues. The course is organised into core, selective, elective, specialisation, and capstone components, allowing students to build both foundational knowledge and specialised expertise. Core units introduce key theories, concepts, institutions, and the historical development of the international system, giving students a strong grounding in how global relations operate. Selective units allow students to explore a wide range of specialist areas within international relations, while elective units offer the flexibility to study related disciplines that complement their interests and career goals. Students may also choose to pursue an optional specialisation in areas such as International Security Studies, Peace and Conflict Studies, or Political Economy, enabling deeper focus on specific global challenges. A major feature of the program is the capstone experience, where students apply their knowledge and analytical skills to an independent research project. This culminates in either a 6,000-word research essay or a 12,000-word supervised dissertation. Overall, the program develops strong analytical, research, and communication skills while preparing graduates to critically engage with international issues and pursue careers in diplomacy, policy, international organisations, research, and global advocacy.
