COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Design (Design Innovation) (Strategic Design) is a structured, practice-led program that develops advanced skills in design thinking, strategic innovation, and leadership for complex real-world challenges. In the first year, students build foundational expertise through core units such as Design Practice and Management, Designing for the Digital Revolution, Design Thinking, Practices of Design Innovation, and Strategic Design and Leadership. These subjects develop a strong understanding of how design operates as a tool for problem-solving, systems thinking, and organisational change, while elective units allow students to tailor their learning to specific interests. In the second year, the program shifts toward advanced application through major project work, including Design Innovation and Strategic Design projects, where students engage in large-scale, real-world design challenges. These capstone experiences encourage collaboration, experimentation, and the integration of research, strategy, and creative practice. Students may also choose additional capstone pathways such as Design Innovation Catalyst, Design Research Project, or Design Dissertation, depending on whether they prefer industry-focused or research-focused outcomes. Throughout the degree, emphasis is placed on innovation, leadership, and interdisciplinary thinking, preparing graduates to work across industries such as business, technology, government, and social innovation. The program ultimately produces design leaders capable of shaping systems, services, and strategies that create meaningful impact in global contexts.
