COURSE CURRICULUM

The Juris Doctor is a three-year full-time graduate-entry law program requiring the completion of 144 credit points, consisting of 102 credit points of compulsory core units and 42 credit points of elective study. The program is designed to be taken in a structured sequence, ensuring students progressively build foundational legal knowledge before advancing to more complex areas of law. In Year 1, students are introduced to core legal principles through units such as Ngura and the Foundations of Law, Contracts, Lawyers, Justice and Ethics, Criminal Law, Process and Research I and II, Torts, Public International Law, and Public Law and Statutory Interpretation. These subjects establish essential skills in legal reasoning, ethics, and statutory interpretation. In Year 2, students deepen their understanding with advanced core units including Administrative Law, Federal Constitutional Law, Property and Commercial Law, Evidence, Corporations Law, Equity, Land Law, and Civil Dispute Resolution, which develop expertise in key practice areas of law. In Year 3, students complete Conflict of Laws along with a range of elective units and jurisprudence study, allowing specialisation and academic exploration of legal theory and practice. The program is delivered through in-person teaching with a strong focus on critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and professional legal skills.
