COURSE CURRICULUM

The Doctor of Physiotherapy is a structured three-year program that combines clinical education, research training, and professional development through extensive work-integrated learning. The course is designed to provide a patient-centred and evidence-based approach to physiotherapy, preparing students to work effectively in a variety of healthcare settings. Throughout the program, students gain hands-on experience with real clients through supervised clinical placements in urban public and private clinics as well as rural health settings. In Year 1, students begin with a professional immersion experience followed by foundational units in physiotherapy practice, where they develop core knowledge and essential clinical skills. In Year 2, learning focuses on core clinical practice and clinical practicum units, allowing students to build competence in patient assessment, treatment planning, and therapeutic interventions through structured clinical exposure. In Year 3, students advance to higher-level clinical reasoning, research, and professional development, while also completing advanced clinical practice and multiple clinical practicums. This final year includes a research project and elective units that allow students to tailor their studies to specific interests such as pain management, pharmacology, diabetes care, and behavioural therapies. Overall, the program integrates theory, research, and clinical experience to produce highly skilled, reflective, and evidence-based physiotherapy professionals ready for diverse healthcare careers.
