COURSE CURRICULUM

The Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) is a structured four-year professional program requiring completion of 192 credit points, with all units prescribed in sequence to ensure progressive development of knowledge and clinical competence. In Year 1, students begin with Introduction to Dentistry and Foundations of Dentistry 1, which build essential understanding of biological sciences and basic dental principles. Year 2 advances into Foundations of Dentistry 2, Core Clinical Practice 1, and two DMD Project units, combining early clinical exposure with research development and applied learning in dentistry. In Year 3, students transition into more intensive clinical training through Core Clinical Practice 2 and 3, supported by elective opportunities that allow limited academic flexibility while strengthening clinical competence across a range of dental disciplines. Year 4 focuses on advanced and extramural clinical practice, where students undertake Extramural and Advanced Clinical Practice units that provide extensive real-world experience in diverse dental settings. This final stage consolidates all prior learning and prepares students for independent professional practice. Across the entire program, students progressively build clinical skills, theoretical knowledge, and professional judgement through structured learning and supervised patient care. The program ensures graduates develop the competence, confidence, and ethical grounding required for modern dental practice. Upon completion, graduates are fully prepared for registration as dentists and for careers in general practice, specialist training, research, or public health dentistry.
