COURSE CURRICULUM

The Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (Orthodontics) is a comprehensive three-year specialist training program that combines advanced clinical practice, theoretical education, and dental research to prepare dentists for expert orthodontic practice. In Year 1, students develop foundational knowledge and clinical skills through courses covering malocclusion diagnosis, cephalometrics, treatment planning, clinical photography, cleft lip and palate management, functional appliances, fixed appliance systems, biomechanics, facial growth and development, and the biology of tooth movement. Research training begins with Research Methods in Dentistry and Dental Research Studies. Year 2 builds on these foundations through intermediate and advanced orthodontic theory alongside extensive clinical training, focusing on complex treatment planning, biomechanics, anchorage management, and evidence-based orthodontic care. Students continue their research development through Dental Research Studies 2 and 3, strengthening their analytical and scholarly skills. In Year 3, the program emphasizes comprehensive orthodontic theory and advanced clinical management of increasingly complex cases. Students undertake intensive clinical training, integrating diagnosis, treatment planning, and specialist-level patient care while completing advanced research projects through Dental Research Studies 4 and 5. Throughout the program, clinical training and theoretical learning progress in a structured sequence, ensuring graduates acquire the expertise, research capability, and professional competence required for specialist orthodontic practice, academic careers, and leadership roles within the dental profession.
