COURSE CURRICULUM

The Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (Oral Surgery) is a three-year specialist training program that prepares qualified dentists for advanced surgical practice in the diagnosis and management of oral diseases. In Year 1, students develop foundational knowledge and skills through units in oral medicine, oral pathology, perioperative care, dento-alveolar surgery, generic clinical skills, and research methods in dentistry. They also begin Dental Research Studies 1, building competence in evidence-based practice and scientific inquiry. In Year 2, students progress to more advanced training in oral pathology and dento-alveolar surgery, including management of trauma and complex surgical cases. This stage strengthens clinical decision-making and introduces more challenging surgical procedures, supported by ongoing research development through Dental Research Studies 2 and 3. In Year 3, students undertake highly advanced clinical training in dento-alveolar surgery, alongside units in orofacial pain and basic life support and resuscitation, ensuring they are prepared to manage medically complex and emergency situations. Dental Research Studies 4 and 5 further enhance research capability and academic development. Throughout the program, students integrate surgical expertise, oral pathology knowledge, and perioperative care to develop specialist-level competence. Graduates are prepared for careers as specialist oral surgeons working in hospitals, academic institutions, and clinical practice, with the ability to manage complex oral and maxillofacial surgical cases safely and effectively while contributing to research and patient care advancement.
