COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Veterinary Biology and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine is a six-year integrated program that combines foundational biological sciences with advanced veterinary clinical training. In the first two years, students focus on core scientific and animal science subjects such as Life and Evolution, Chemistry, Genetics and Genomics, Animal Structure and Function, Animal Nutrition, and Introductory Veterinary Pathogenesis, along with electives and introductory statistics. This stage builds a strong understanding of biological systems, animal health, and scientific methods essential for veterinary studies. From the third year onward, students transition into the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine component, beginning with foundational veterinary science units including professional skills, animal management systems, research and enquiry, and veterinary professionalism. In the fourth year, learning advances into principles of animal disease, clinical skills development, veterinary practice systems, and research training. The fifth year focuses on clinical application across multiple areas such as small animal practice, livestock practice, equine practice, exotic and wildlife practice, veterinary public health, and practice management, providing broad exposure to real-world veterinary work. In the final year, students engage in intensive clinical training through small and large animal clinics, laboratory investigations, public or industry placements, and extramural placements. This structured progression ensures graduates develop strong scientific knowledge, clinical expertise, and practical experience required for professional veterinary practice in diverse settings.
