COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Media and Communications is a 144-credit-point degree that combines core media studies with flexible interdisciplinary learning options. Students complete 18 credit points of core units that provide foundational knowledge in media and communications, along with 6 credit points of degree-selective units. A major component of the program is the 48-credit-point Media Studies major, which develops expertise in media industries, communication practices, storytelling, and content creation. Students can further tailor their studies by completing either a 36-credit-point minor or a second major from the University’s shared pool of disciplines. These options span a wide range of fields, including architecture and interaction design, arts and social sciences, business, education, engineering and computer science, health sciences, music, and science. Additional elective units allow students to broaden their knowledge and explore personal interests across multiple subject areas. High-achieving students may participate in the Dalyell Stream, an enhanced academic pathway that requires 12 credit points of specialised Dalyell units focused on leadership, interdisciplinary thinking, cultural awareness, and advanced problem-solving. Dalyell Scholars also gain access to enrichment opportunities and accelerated study options. The degree’s flexible structure encourages students to combine media expertise with knowledge from other disciplines, creating a well-rounded education that prepares graduates for diverse careers in media, communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, and related industries.
