COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences is structured to provide students with a strong foundation in mathematics, statistics, and data science from the beginning of the program. From the first year, students engage with core concepts that encourage critical thinking, logical reasoning, and the ability to question assumptions while exploring different approaches to problem-solving. As the degree progresses, students work on increasingly complex mathematical and computational problems, often collaborating in group projects as well as completing independent tasks that require hypothesis development, evidence evaluation, and innovative solution design. The program places strong emphasis on developing both technical and analytical skills, as well as the ability to communicate mathematical ideas effectively. Assessment is varied and includes examinations, assignments, research papers, presentations, and peer evaluations, ensuring students are tested on both theoretical understanding and practical application. In the final stage of the degree, students complete a capstone project within their chosen cognate major, where they apply their knowledge to real-world or research-based problems in a collaborative setting. The available majors include Mathematics, Statistics, Financial Mathematics and Statistics, Data Science, Mathematical Modelling and Computation, and Discrete Mathematics and Algorithms. Overall, the course prepares students for advanced study and careers in analytics, finance, computing, research, and data-driven industries.
