COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Engineering Honours (Biomedical Engineering) and Bachelor of Science (Health) is a combined degree that integrates advanced engineering training with comprehensive studies in health sciences. It is designed to develop students’ technical expertise in biomedical engineering alongside a strong understanding of human health, healthcare systems, and population wellbeing. The program begins with foundational engineering units in mathematics, computing, and multidisciplinary project work, which build essential problem-solving and analytical skills. Students then progress into specialised Biomedical Engineering subjects, with opportunities to explore optional specialisations where available. In the final year, students complete an honours thesis in Biomedical Engineering, allowing them to undertake independent research and apply engineering principles to real-world healthcare challenges. Throughout the degree, students also participate in the Professional Engagement Program, which includes industry experience and engineering work placements to strengthen practical skills and professional readiness. Alongside engineering studies, students complete core Bachelor of Science units and a structured Health stream, which includes core and project-based learning focused on human health, health systems, and related disciplines. The program also includes Open Learning Environment units and electives to broaden academic experience. This combined structure ensures graduates develop both engineering innovation skills and a deep understanding of health sciences, preparing them for careers in medical technology, healthcare innovation, clinical research, and interdisciplinary roles that address complex health challenges.
