COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of Laws is a structured double degree designed to combine economic analysis with comprehensive legal education over a five-year pathway. To graduate, students must complete 240 credit points, including 144 credit points of law units, a 72-credit-point Economics program (in Economics or Advanced Economics), and a combination of elective and Open Learning or Dalyell units depending on the stream. In the early years (Year 1 and Year 2), students study foundational economics subjects such as Introductory Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Economic Statistics, Econometrics, Intermediate Microeconomics, and Intermediate Macroeconomics, alongside core law units including Foundations of Law, Contracts, Criminal Law, Lawyers, Justice and Ethics, and Criminal Law Process and Research. In Year 3, students continue with advanced economics through an embedded major while also completing key law units such as Torts, Public Law, Public International Law, and Statutory Interpretation. After completing the economics requirements at the end of Year 3, students transition into the standalone Bachelor of Laws program for Years 4 and 5. These final years focus entirely on advanced legal study, including Administrative Law, Constitutional Law, Corporations Law, Evidence, Equity, Property and Commercial Law, Land Law, Civil Dispute Resolution, and elective law subjects, along with Jurisprudence. This integrated structure develops strong analytical, legal, and economic reasoning skills, preparing graduates for careers in law, policy, consulting, finance, and government.
