COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Applied Science (Exercise Physiology) is a four-year undergraduate coursework degree that prepares students to use exercise and behaviour change strategies in the prevention and management of chronic disease. This program provides comprehensive knowledge, professional competencies, and clinical experience to equip graduates for careers as Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs).Students will complete core units in key areas such as musculoskeletal anatomy, biomechanics, exercise physiology, nutrition, exercise assessment, and exercise programming for both clinical and non-clinical populations. In addition to core subjects, students can customise their learning by selecting elective units from the disciplinary pool, the shared pool, or the Open Learning Environment. An embedded Honours pathway is available by invitation in the final three semesters, offering students the opportunity to undertake advanced research and academic development.A central component of the program is professional practice. Students will complete over 500 hours of supervised clinical and non-clinical placements across their third and fourth years of study. These placements take place in a variety of settings, including hospitals, rehabilitation centres, gyms, and on-site university clinics. Students are also required to complete a community project placement in their final year, enabling them to apply their knowledge in real-world health promotion and community settings. At least one placement will take place in a rural or regional area of New South Wales, ensuring students gain diverse practical experience.To meet the course requirements, students must complete 532 total placement hours, typically 38 hours per week over 14 weeks. This hands-on experience ensures graduates are well-prepared to deliver person-centred, evidence-based care as part of multidisciplinary healthcare teams.This degree is ideal for those passionate about improving health outcomes through exercise science and who are ready to make a meaningful impact on the lives of others.
