COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Applied Science (Exercise and Sport Science) is a three-year undergraduate coursework degree designed to develop your ability to integrate exercise and physical activity with disease prevention, rehabilitation, and the promotion of good health and wellbeing. Through a combination of theory and practice, this program equips you with the knowledge and practical skills needed to design and deliver effective exercise programs across diverse populations and settings.You will complete a core curriculum alongside a major in Exercise Science and a minor in Physical Activity and Health. These studies explore topics such as biomechanics, physiology, motor control, exercise prescription, and the role of physical activity in managing chronic conditions and enhancing quality of life. In your final year, you will complete at least 140 hours of professional placement across two units, applying your knowledge in real-world community or clinical settings.To further broaden your expertise, you may choose to undertake an optional second minor or second major from the disciplinary pool, shared pool, or Open Learning Environment. This flexibility allows you to tailor your studies to align with your interests and career goals, whether that be in health promotion, rehabilitation, sport science, or education.Professional fieldwork is a core part of the degree and a requirement for membership with Exercise and Sport Science Australia (ESSA), the professional body for Australian exercise scientists. Through 200 hours of mandatory placement (25 hours per week over eight weeks), you will gain valuable hands-on experience and develop the skills necessary to transition confidently into the workforce.This degree is ideal for students who are passionate about human movement, sports performance, and preventive health, and who are seeking a rewarding career improving individual and community health through exercise science.
