COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Agricultural Science Honours is designed for students seeking advanced knowledge and skills in agricultural science, sustainable production, and global food security. Building on a broad foundation, you will study a wide range of subjects including introductory agricultural science, biology, animal management, agronomy, agricultural economics and business, agricultural markets, statistics and data analysis, genetics, plant protection, biotechnology, and digital agriculture. To develop expertise in your chosen field, you will select one of eight cognate majors such as agricultural economics, animal production, food science, or soil science and hydrology. Throughout the course, you will apply your disciplinary knowledge to solve real-world problems in interdisciplinary group projects.The Honours year focuses on independent research, where you will plan, execute, analyze, and communicate a significant research project within your area of specialization. This year also provides immersive placement and internship opportunities in the agriculture sector, allowing you to gain valuable hands-on experience. Advanced coursework will explore the resilience of agricultural systems and emerging high-tech agricultural innovations, preparing you to tackle future challenges in the industry.Cross-cutting themes of profitability, sustainability, entrepreneurship, and ethical behavior run throughout the course, equipping you with the future-focused skills essential for a successful career in agriculture. Professional practice is emphasized through the completion of 4000-level Honours units, block-mode teaching at the University’s Narrabri farms and facilities, and farm or industry placements. These practical experiences provide insight into current industry practices and emerging trends.The course requires a commitment of 320 mandatory work hours, completed as 40 hours per week over eight weeks, ensuring you graduate with both academic knowledge and real-world skills ready for the dynamic agricultural sector.
