COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Advanced Computing and Bachelor of Science is a five-year combined degree that integrates advanced computing skills with a strong foundation in scientific knowledge, preparing students for careers in technology, data science, and scientific innovation. In the first year, students develop core skills in programming, computing professionalism, mathematics, computer systems, and introductory science units. The second year focuses on data structures and algorithms, data science foundations, software development practices, and specialised science units, along with beginning a major in Advanced Computing. In the third year, students advance their knowledge in computing systems, usability and security, data management, and further specialised computing and science electives. The fourth year includes advanced computing major units, management-focused computing studies, and a wide selection of science electives and interdisciplinary subjects, along with Open Learning Environment requirements. In the final year, students complete advanced electives or a potential thesis pathway, along with higher-level computing innovation subjects such as computing innovation and additional science electives. The program allows flexibility to combine computing and science units, ensuring students can tailor their studies to their interests while meeting degree requirements. Throughout the course, students build expertise in programming, algorithms, data analysis, scientific inquiry, and problem-solving. This combination equips graduates to work in fields such as artificial intelligence, data science, scientific research, environmental modelling, and technology development, making them highly versatile professionals in a rapidly evolving digital and scientific world.
