COURSE CURRICULUM

To graduate from the Master of Science at UniSQ, students must successfully complete 16 units of study, which are designed to provide advanced knowledge and practical research experience in a chosen scientific field. The degree combines core courses, specialisation units, student-selected courses, and a research project to ensure a well-rounded learning experience that supports professional and academic development.The program begins with two core courses that provide foundational skills essential for any professional scientist. These include Essentials for Professional Scientists, which covers the fundamental principles and practices required in scientific work, and Statistics for Quantitative Researchers, which equips students with the statistical and analytical tools necessary to interpret complex data effectively. These courses establish a strong foundation for advanced study and research.Students then complete eight specialisation units, allowing them to focus deeply on a specific scientific area aligned with their interests and career goals. These units provide advanced theoretical knowledge and practical skills, ensuring graduates can apply scientific concepts and methodologies within their chosen field. The specialisation component can be tailored to various disciplines such as biomedical sciences, environmental science, agriculture, physical sciences, information technology, or psychology, enabling flexibility and relevance to professional aspirations.Two student-selected units offer further flexibility, allowing students to explore complementary areas of interest or develop interdisciplinary skills that enhance their career prospects. This component supports a personalised learning pathway and encourages broader scientific thinking.Finally, students undertake a four-unit research project, which provides hands-on experience in designing, conducting, analysing, and presenting original research.
