COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Research at UniSQ is a postgraduate research degree designed to develop advanced research skills and subject-matter expertise through independent, original investigation under academic supervision. To graduate, students must successfully complete 16 units of study, with the program structured to provide both foundational research training and in-depth project work.Students can choose between two pathways: the Master of Research General or the Psychology Research pathway. In the General pathway, students complete two units of research training courses to build essential research knowledge, methodologies, and analytical skills. This prepares them to undertake 14 units of the Masters Research Project, where they engage in an independent research project, applying their training to contribute new knowledge to their chosen field. The project allows students to explore areas of interest, develop critical thinking, and enhance practical research competencies under the guidance of expert supervisors.The Psychology Research pathway follows a similar structure but focuses specifically on research within psychology, preparing students to conduct rigorous investigations in areas such as clinical, cognitive, developmental, or organisational psychology. This pathway combines research training with supervised research projects tailored to the field, ensuring students acquire advanced technical skills, ethical research practices, and the ability to interpret and communicate findings effectively.Graduates of the Master of Research gain highly specialised research expertise and are well-prepared for careers in academia, research institutions, or professional fields that value evidence-based practice and analytical rigor. The program also provides a strong foundation for further doctoral study, enabling students to progress to a PhD or other advanced research qualifications. Overall, the degree equips students to make meaningful contributions to their discipline while developing skills in critical analysis, independent investigation, and scholarly communication.
