COURSE CURRICULUM

To graduate from the Master of Professional Psychology, students must complete eight units of study, comprising both coursework and practicum components. This postgraduate degree is structured to deepen expertise in psychology while building upon prior foundational knowledge, offering advanced training in assessment, intervention, and professional practice.The six coursework units cover key areas essential for professional practice. These include Ethical, Legal and Professional Issues, which addresses the regulatory, ethical, and professional frameworks guiding psychologists; Comprehensive Psychological Assessment, focusing on the administration and interpretation of psychological tests; and Psychological Treatment and Intervention, which develops practical skills in therapeutic approaches. Students also complete Evidence-based Practice for Psychologists, equipping them to integrate research into clinical decision-making; Adult Psychopathology, which explores mental health disorders and clinical presentations in adults; and Child and Adolescent Psychology, focusing on developmental considerations, mental health, and intervention strategies for younger populations. Coursework delivery varies depending on the mode of study, with Ipswich students attending Monday workshops on-campus and external students combining online workshops with five-day residential schools at the Toowoomba campus.The remaining two units consist of practicum courses, providing supervised professional experience in real-world psychological settings. These placements allow students to apply theoretical knowledge and assessment skills, gain experience in intervention strategies, and develop professional competencies under the guidance of experienced supervisors.Completion of this program prepares graduates for general registration as a psychologist, equipping them with advanced technical, research, and communication skills. The combination of intensive coursework and practicum ensures students are well-prepared for professional practice across diverse clinical, community, educational, and organisational settings, capable of delivering ethical, evidence-based psychological services.
