COURSE CURRICULUM

To graduate from the Master of Professional Engineering, students must successfully complete 16 units of study. This postgraduate degree is designed to deepen expertise in a specialised engineering field through a combination of advanced coursework and research opportunities, building on the foundational knowledge acquired in a prior engineering degree. The program equips graduates with both theoretical understanding and practical skills required to meet the demands of professional engineering practice.The core component of the degree consists of six units, which provide essential research, technical, and professional training. Students undertake courses such as Research Training, Advanced Numerical Modelling, and Advanced System Design and Innovation to develop analytical and problem-solving skills. The degree also includes a two-part Masters Research Project, which enables students to apply their learning to a real-world engineering problem, develop critical thinking, and gain hands-on research experience. Additionally, the MENS Professional Skills Pathways unit enhances students’ professional capabilities, preparing them for effective participation in the engineering workforce.Specialisation courses make up ten units of the degree, allowing students to focus on a specific engineering discipline of interest. These courses enable learners to acquire in-depth technical knowledge, advanced design skills, and the ability to implement innovative solutions in practical settings. The program also recognises prior learning and relevant work experience, which may reduce the number of courses required for completion.Additional components such as residential schools and other study options provide opportunities for practical engagement and collaboration with peers and industry professionals. The structure of the Master of Professional Engineering ensures that graduates are prepared for professional accreditation, leadership roles, and potential further research study, including PhD programs. Completion of the degree results in a highly skilled, industry-ready professional capable of addressing complex engineering challenges across a range of sectors.
