COURSE CURRICULUM

To graduate from the Master of Clinical Psychology at the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ), students must successfully complete 16 units of study, consisting of coursework and practicum components. This program integrates academic theory, clinical practice, and research to ensure graduates are prepared for professional registration as psychologists with a clinical endorsement pathway.The coursework component comprises 10 units focused on developing advanced theoretical knowledge and practical skills essential for clinical practice. Core subjects include PSY5110 Ethical, Legal and Professional Issues, which explores professional standards and ethical considerations in psychology, and PSY5140 Comprehensive Psychological Assessment, which builds proficiency in administering and interpreting psychological tests. Students also study PSY5145 Psychological Treatment and Intervention, PSY5050 Evidence-based Practice for Psychologists, PSY5070 Adult Psychopathology, and PSY5060 Child and Adolescent Psychology to strengthen their understanding of therapeutic approaches and clinical diagnoses across age groups.In the advanced stages of the program, students undertake subjects such as PSY8050 Advanced Clinical Intervention, PSY8260 Advanced Child and Adolescent Psychology, PSY8210 Advanced Clinical Intervention II, and PSY8270 Advanced Psychopathology. These units provide in-depth training in clinical formulation, intervention planning, and complex case management, enabling students to refine their clinical competencies and prepare for independent practice.The practicum component, worth 6 units, provides extensive supervised clinical experience. Students complete placements through UniSQ’s Psychology and Counselling Clinics located in Ipswich and Toowoomba, where they gain hands-on experience working directly with clients. This practical training ensures students can apply their academic knowledge to real-world contexts under the supervision of experienced, board-approved clinical psychologists.By combining rigorous coursework with professional practicum experience, the Master of Clinical Psychology equips graduates with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to pursue registration, undertake the Clinical Registrar program, and contribute effectively to the field of mental health care.
