COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Visual Art at the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ) is a 24-unit degree designed to develop students’ creative, technical, and professional skills for success in the contemporary visual arts industry. This program combines core courses, a 12-unit Visual Art major, and elective units that provide both depth and flexibility in learning. Students are encouraged to explore their creativity while gaining a strong foundation in communication, cultural awareness, and professional practice. The four core courses—Persuasive Communication: Presenting Yourself and Your Ideas, Introduction to Creative and Critical Thinking, Cultural Responsibilities and Creative Communities, and Arts Business: Making and Managing Your Arts Career—equip students with the essential tools to present their ideas effectively, think critically, and navigate the arts industry confidently.The 12-unit Visual Art major allows students to specialise in areas such as curation, visual art studio practice, or innovation in the arts. Within this major, students engage with contemporary art concepts, techniques, and processes while learning from experienced artists and industry professionals. The program offers practical opportunities to exhibit works at the UniSQ Toowoomba campus and the Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery, giving students real-world experience and exposure in the arts community. This practical engagement ensures graduates can transition seamlessly into professional roles within galleries, museums, community art organisations, and other creative sectors.In addition to their major, students complete eight selection units, which can be chosen from within or outside the School of Creative Arts. This flexibility allows learners to broaden their skills or complement their artistic practice with studies in areas such as Film, Television, Journalism, or Design. The degree’s structure encourages interdisciplinary thinking, preparing students for careers that demand creativity, adaptability, and innovation.
