COURSE CURRICULUM

To graduate from the Bachelor of Theatre at the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ), students must complete 24 units of study. The program is structured to combine core courses, a major, and student-selected electives, offering both a strong foundation in creative arts and the flexibility to pursue areas of individual interest.The degree begins with four core courses that develop essential communication, creative thinking, and professional skills. These include Persuasive Communication: Presenting Yourself and Your Ideas, which helps students master presentation and public speaking; Introduction to Creative and Critical Thinking, which encourages innovation and problem-solving; Cultural Responsibilities and Creative Communities, which explores the role of artists in society; and Arts Business: Making and Managing Your Arts Career, which equips students with entrepreneurial and management skills for a sustainable career in the arts.Students then complete a 12-unit major that forms the primary focus of their study. Within this major, they explore various aspects of theatre production and performance, including acting, directing, playwriting, and design. The major also allows students to gain hands-on experience in live performances, digital storytelling, and collaborative creative projects, preparing them for real-world theatre environments.In addition, students undertake eight student selection units, which provide the opportunity to customise their learning according to their personal goals and interests. These electives can be chosen from other creative disciplines or complementary study areas such as media, education, or communication, allowing for a multidisciplinary approach.The Bachelor of Theatre degree structure ensures that graduates leave UniSQ not only with artistic and technical expertise but also with a strong understanding of the professional and cultural contexts of the performing arts. This combination of creative practice, theory, and business acumen prepares students for diverse careers across theatre, film, education, and community arts.
