COURSE CURRICULUM

To graduate from the Bachelor of Surveying Technology at the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ), students must successfully complete 24 units of study. The degree is structured to provide a strong foundation in surveying principles, complemented by practical training and elective options that allow for professional focus. The program combines core, specified, and selective courses to ensure students develop technical, analytical, and professional skills relevant to modern surveying practices.The core courses, which account for 20 units, cover a comprehensive range of topics essential for a career in surveying. These include foundational subjects such as Foundations of Tertiary Study, Building Employability, and Engineering Mathematics, which establish key academic and problem-solving skills. Students then progress into technical surveying units such as Introduction to Surveying, Fundamental Metrology for Surveyors, and Applied Surveying and Computations, which build a solid understanding of measurement techniques and data analysis. Courses like Introduction to Global Navigation Satellite Systems, Geospatial Mapping, and Geographic Information Systems introduce students to modern spatial technologies used in the field.Practical learning is emphasized through work-integrated learning (WIL) courses, including Fundamental Surveying Practice and Applied Surveying Practices, which enable students to gain industry-relevant experience. The curriculum also extends into specialized areas like Photogrammetry and Drone Mapping, Construction Surveying, Mine Surveying, and Advanced Surveying, equipping students to work across multiple industry sectors such as construction, mining, and land development. In addition, courses like Sustainable Resource Use and Sustainable Urban Design and Development ensure students understand the broader environmental and planning contexts of surveying work.Students also complete specified selection courses (2 units) and student selective courses (2 units), which provide the flexibility to tailor studies according to individual interests and career goals.
