COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Physiotherapy at the University of Southern Queensland requires students to complete 32 units, including 29 core units and 3 honours pathway units, providing a comprehensive foundation in the theory and practice of physiotherapy. The degree structure integrates essential health sciences with advanced clinical and professional learning, preparing students for diverse roles in healthcare. The program begins with foundational courses such as Foundational Anatomy and Physiology for Physiotherapists, Applied Musculoskeletal and Neuroanatomy, Bioscience, and Foundations of Physiotherapy I and II, which build a strong understanding of the human body, movement, and the basic principles of physiotherapy. Students also study cultural safety, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, and psychology, ensuring they develop cultural awareness and empathy in patient care. Courses such as Developing Skills in Digital Health, Pharmacology and Pathophysiology in Health, and Fundamental Statistics equip students with skills in data analysis, digital service delivery, and understanding of medication effects. As the program progresses, students move into specialized areas including Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy (covering both lower and upper quadrants), Physiotherapy Across the Lifespan, Neurorehabilitation, Paediatric Physiotherapy, and Physiotherapy Management in Acute Care and Cardiorespiratory contexts. These courses focus on developing diagnostic, treatment, and rehabilitation expertise across a variety of clinical settings. The program also emphasizes managing complex and chronic conditions, reflecting real-world healthcare demands. In the final stages, students complete a sequence of Professional Practice courses (I–V), which involve extensive clinical placements that allow them to apply theory in practice under supervision. The honours pathway adds a research or practice-focused component, enabling students to explore advanced topics and contribute to evidence-based physiotherapy.
