COURSE CURRICULUM
The Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences requires students to complete 24 units, structured to build strong scientific foundations while allowing space for discipline-focused study and personalised learning. Like most undergraduate programs, the degree is organised into core courses, a major, and student selective units, ensuring that graduates develop both broad biomedical knowledge and specialised expertise aligned with their interests or career goals. Students begin with eight core units that establish essential principles across biology, chemistry, physiology, and disease processes. Foundations in Human Anatomy and Physiology A and B introduce the structure and function of the human body, while Chemistry 1 and Chemistry 2 build the chemical understanding required for advanced biomedical coursework. Introduction to Biomedical Sciences offers an overview of the discipline and pathways within biomedical research and health science. Fundamentals of Infectious Diseases provides insight into microorganisms and disease mechanisms, while Biomolecular Sciences explores molecular and cellular systems that underpin life and disease. Systems Physiology and Pharmacology deepens students’ understanding of how body systems function and how pharmaceuticals interact with those systems. Together, these core courses prepare students for higher-level study and laboratory work. Beyond the core, students complete an eight-unit major, allowing them to specialise in a focused area within the biomedical sciences. This major can support pathways into medical research, clinical sciences, biotechnology, diagnostics, or preparation for professional health programs such as medicine or pharmacy. Students also undertake eight student selective units, which provide flexibility to broaden their scientific skills or explore complementary disciplines. These electives can be chosen to strengthen academic preparation for competitive postgraduate programs, expand laboratory expertise, or build interdisciplinary skills in areas such as psychology, health, biochemistry, or data analysis. Overall, the degree structure ensures a balanced combination of foundational science, specialised biomedical study, and customisable learning options that prepare students for diverse careers or further study in health and medical sciences.
