COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Occupational Hygiene / Master of Occupational Health and Safety Science is a 32-unit dual qualification structured to develop advanced expertise in workplace health, safety, and occupational risk management across diverse industries. The program is divided into two equal components, each contributing 16 units. The Master of Occupational Hygiene component consists of 16 units of core coursework that focuses on identifying, measuring, and controlling workplace exposures, with emphasis on chemical, physical, biological, and ergonomic hazards, as well as advanced methods for exposure assessment and control strategies. The Master of Occupational Health and Safety Science component also comprises 16 units, including 12 units of core courses that build foundational and advanced knowledge in occupational health and safety systems, risk management frameworks, safety legislation, and incident prevention strategies. Students then complete an additional 2 to 4 units from flexible core courses, allowing specialisation in selected areas of occupational safety practice, and may take up to 2 units of general electives to broaden interdisciplinary understanding. Across both components, the program integrates scientific principles with applied safety practice, preparing graduates to assess complex workplace risks, implement evidence-based interventions, and contribute to regulatory compliance. The structure supports the development of professionals capable of improving health outcomes, reducing occupational injuries and disease, and enhancing safety culture in industrial, government, and consulting environments.
