COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Urban Planning (MUPlan) is a 32-unit postgraduate program designed to develop advanced knowledge and professional skills in planning sustainable, liveable, and resilient urban and regional environments. The program consists of 20 units of core courses that provide a strong foundation in key areas of urban and regional planning, including planning theory, land use planning, statutory and strategic planning frameworks, urban design principles, environmental planning, and policy development. These core courses equip students with the ability to analyse complex urban issues and develop evidence-based solutions that balance social, economic, and environmental considerations. In addition to the core component, students complete 12 units through either a Research Pathway or a General Pathway. The Research Pathway focuses on developing advanced research skills and includes independent study and research projects that allow students to explore specific planning issues in depth. The General Pathway provides a more practice-oriented approach, enabling students to undertake applied learning experiences and broaden their professional capabilities in urban planning contexts. Both pathways are designed to align with diverse career goals in planning practice, policy, and development. Overall, the program integrates theoretical knowledge, technical skills, and practical experience to prepare graduates for professional roles in government, private consultancy, and community-focused planning organisations.
