COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Teaching (Secondary) is a 32-unit postgraduate program designed to prepare graduates for professional registration as secondary school teachers. The program consists of 24 units of core courses that develop essential knowledge and skills in educational theory, pedagogy, classroom management, inclusive education, and assessment practices. These core courses ensure students gain a strong foundation in how adolescents learn and how effective teaching strategies can be applied in diverse secondary school settings. In addition to the core component, students complete 4 to 8 units of Curriculum Studies courses, which focus on developing subject-specific teaching methods and curriculum design for chosen teaching areas. These courses enable students to specialise in how to teach particular school subjects effectively while aligning with curriculum standards and student learning outcomes. Students may also complete 0 to 4 units of Specialist Curriculum Studies courses, which provide further advanced preparation in specialised or additional teaching areas depending on individual interests and career goals. The program places strong emphasis on practical experience, with students undertaking supervised school placements to apply theoretical knowledge in real classroom environments. Overall, the curriculum is designed to integrate educational theory with practical teaching experience, preparing graduates to become confident, effective, and reflective secondary school teachers who can contribute to student learning and development in both national and international school contexts.
